SHOPPING
There are many facets of a shopping excursion that are challenged by the fallout from vision loss in one eye. From getting to the store, negotiating the parking lot to entering a store. Once inside the experience is crazy. So many accidents waiting to happen along the way. Having to be careful of all the people and objects on the way to the aisles and shelves. Being mindful when turning, tripping hazards and so many things and people to bump into. It really requires perserverence to get adapted to this new way of shopping.
Inside the store (doesn’t matter what kind), my brain is scouring all the different items… clothes on racks or folded on shelves, items on shelves in a grocery store. At first and for some months the brain is on information overload. “Holy crymany! What is all this stuff.” I have had to leave the store a few times from utter confusion. I had no idea how much I took for granted. It is truly humbling but it gets better with time, repetition and a lot of patience.
Putting groceries and clothes away is an excellent exercise for a adapting to two dimensional seeing. Maybe I should create a service for putting other people’s groceries and clothes away, or organizing their garages. Get paid for learning to adapt! Fun Mun?
